Bel Canto Choir Vilnius presents: Enjoy the Silence

A cozy and elegant chamber concert of Bel Canto Choir Vilnius & Friends

Bel Canto Choir Vilnius, Lithuania’s best mixed voices choir, performed an elegant and intimate chamber concert, entitled Enjoy the Silence, featuring the best of modern choral music. The concert took place on June 17, 8:30 PM at the St. Catherine Church in Vilnius.

For the first time in Lithuania, Bel Canto Choir Vilnius performed a choral version of Enjoy the Silence by the famous British duet Depeche Mode. The choral arrangement of the song was written by the Grammy-winning, world’s most famous contemporary choral composer Eric Whitacre. The choir spiced up this piece with a delicate improvisation of electronic music, created for this special premiere by the choir’s fellow artist Artūras Bulota.

Bel Canto Choir Vilnius also presented other well known works by contemporary composers Eric Whitacre and Ola Gjeilo. The concert featured Eric Whitacre’s renowned piece Lux Aurumque from his Grammy-winning album Light & Gold. The composer has chosen the Lux Aurumque to begin his first Virtual Choir project, which rocked worldwide choral music scene in 2010.

Bel Canto Choir Vilnius also performed Northern Lights and The Ground by Ola Gjeilo, meanwhile the choir’s fellow soloist Lina Dambrauskaitė premiered Eric Whitacte’s Five Hebrew Love Songs arrangement for soloist (soprano), grand piano and violin.

The choir also presented a new composition from the Lithuanian composer Vaclovas Augustinas, called M.K. Oginskio priesakai sūnui, as well as several parts from the Mass in Blue (Jazz Mass), written by Will Todd, one of the best British composers of the new generation.

The concert of Bel Canto Choir Vilnius featured another very special piece – an extremely popular Spiegel im Spiegel by Arvo Pärt, a Grammy-winning, most famous Estonian composer. This minimalistic composition for piano and violin, used in dozens film soundtracks, opened the Enjoy the Silence concert of Bel Canto Choir Vilnius.
