Legendary U.S. TV series to feature music performed by Bel Canto Choir Vilnius

The voices of Bel Canto Choir Vilnius will soon be heard on the soundtrack of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, a cult classic U.S. comedy TV series.

Bel Canto Choir Vilnius and Sunny Television Productions, the production company behind the fan favorite U.S. TV series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia have agreed on licensing the choir’s audio recording of Air on the G String, an arrangement of a musical piece by J.S. Bach. Its delicate contemporary a cappella rendition was recorded during a live concert by the choir at St. Catherine’s Church in Vilnius in 2011.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is one of the longest running and most critically-acclaimed comedy TV series. Critics and viewers have heaped praise on the show with especially high ratings on prominent review aggregators (IMDb score: 8.8) and have included it on lists of all-time best TV series. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia airs on the FXX cable network, a subsidiary of 21st Century Fox, a U.S. mass media corporation, and on many TV channels worldwide.

One of the leading roles in the legendary TV comedy show is played by Danny DeVito, an American actor, whose character together with the self–styled “The Gang”, a group of five friends, runs a bar in Philadelphia. This is where the plot of the TV series has been developing for the past 13 years.

Audrius Valatkevičius, President of Bel Canto Choir Vilnius stated that the creators of the TV series discovered the choir on YouTube. “Our official channel has recently passed 4 million views, this number is rapidly growing, and our U.S. audience outnumbers every other country, including Lithuania. Even though we have already gotten used to the idea that we’re mostly listened to abroad, we’re very excited by this offer. We’re about to become the first Lithuanian musical artist or group with a performance featured in a series or film of such popularity, and our music is about to reach an enormous audience of many millions,” said Mr. Valatkevičius.

The performance by Bel Canto Choir Vilnius will be featured in episode 9 of the 13th season of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, to be aired on November 14. The authors dedicated the episode to Mac (Rob McElhenney), a member of “The Gang”, whose quest in finding his sexual identity is an important subplot of the series’ many seasons and will be a major plot point of the episode.
